Fund of funds firm Hamilton Lane has announced changes to its ownership structure and several additions to its management team.
An investor group headed by Hartley R. Rogers and including Cascade Investment, Bill Gate’s investment operation, will purchase approximately 40 per cent of the shares of Hamilton Lane. Leslie Brun will remain as chairman of the firm and its largest individual shareholder, and Mario Giannini will remain as chief executive officer. Rogers will join as vice chairman of the board of directors and will be involved in the firm’s investment, sales and marketing areas.
Rogers was formerly co-head of the US private equity department of Credit Suisse First Boston and co-head of the $2.74bn CSFB Equity Partners private equity fund. He is currently, and will continue to be, a managing director of Aries Advisors. He also previously served as a managing director at Morgan Stanley where he managed the Princes Gate family of private equity funds.
In addition, Martin Nelson from Cascade Investment and O. Griffith Sexton, one of the investors, will join Hamilton Lane’s board of directors. Nelson previously practiced corporate and securities law for Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Sexton was formerly a managing director of Morgan Stanley and a director of its corporate restructuring group.
Hamilton Lane was founded in 1991 and has invested over $26bn in more than 280 private equity funds. The firm currently has $4.7bn under management.
