‘Early announcements by numerous funds in Japan, Australia, India, China and South Korea suggest that the pace is likely to pick up in 2004,’ the AVCJ said.
Japan led the expansion in funds raised, with firms including Mizuho Capital, Basic Capital, Jafco and Carlyle Japan receiving a total of $1.36bn in commitments. Sizeable fundraisings elsewhere included HSBC Private Equity Asia’s latest regional fund, which raised $350m.
