Warburg Pincus buys US firm Polypore for $1.1bn in secondary deal

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityUS buy-out firm Warburg Pincus has agreed to acquire Polypore from GTCR Golder Rauner and The InterTech Group for a reported $1.1bn. Warburg Pincus beat rivals including Permira, Ripplewood Holdings, CSFB Merchant Banking and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners to seal the deal.

Polypore is a manufacturer of filtration products for electronics, healthcare, speciality technologies, transportation and power storage. GTCR and InterTech made their initial investment in Polpore in 1994 with just $15m of equity.

This latest transaction comes just days after Warburg Pincus announced that it was to buy Irish packaging company Clondalkin Group for E630m.

The firm currently has approximately $9bn under management and $5bn available for investment in a range of industries including industry, business services, energy, financial services and technologies, healthcare and life sciences. The firm closed its latest fund, Warburg Pincus Private Equity VIII with $5.3bn in April 2002.
