US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and a consortium of rival funds including Permira and Cinven, are competing to buy Dutch retailer Vendex KBB. The transaction is likely to be valued at around E1.3bn.
CVC Capital Partners, the private equity firm which acquired several retail chains from Vendex KBB in 2002, was also expected to table an offer but has now decided not to bid, according to a report by Reuters.
Vendex KBB is the Netherlands largest stores group but the company issued its second profit warning for 2003 last week. Vendex has been under pressure from its shareholders to shed loss-making divisions to boost its profits as it struggles with weak consumer demand.
