Warburg Pincus and Blackstone have backed a $300m investment in West African oil and gas exploration in one of the region's biggest private equity transactions.
The investment vehicle behind the transaction, Kosmos Energy, may also invest a further $300m into joint exploration activities with US-based Pioneer Natural Resources, according to the Financial Times.
Warburg Pincus has committed $1.5bn to the energy sector, mainly in exploration and production companies, over the last 12 years. But the firm has invested predominantly in the US and this transaction marks its first foray into the African market.
