US-based firm Capital Z Investment Partners has agreed to sponsor the London-based Hutton Collins mezzanine fund by buying an existing E35m interest from Abbey National and injecting a further E40m. The commitment will take the fund to E200m.
Graham Hutton, a founder of the fund, said: 'We're delighted to announce this transaction, which both expands and strengthens the investor base of the fund…Given Capital Z's extensive experience and on-going commitment to the sponsorship of independent private equity firms, we consider that Capital Z is a perfect partner for us going forward.'
Hutton Collins first started raising its fund in 2002 with a target of E500m. This was subsequently scaled back to E250m even though the group was quick to make an impression in providing financing to some of Europe's highest profile deals. It has so far invested E110m in four deals: Coral, Telediffusion de France, Pizza Express and Radio 538.
Scott Delman, president of Capital Z Investment Partners, said: 'We've had a view for some time that certain segments of the European mezzanine market hold exceptional promise, but were not able to identify a good fit for Capital Z. In our view, Hutton Collins is focused on the most exciting niche of the market.'
