Canadian Ventures West recruits Paul Kedrosky as venture fellow

Canadian Ventures West has recruited academic Dr. Paul Kedrosky as a venture fellow. Kedrosky will be involved in sourcing and evaluating deals, and providing advice and analysis on a wide range of venture capital issues.

'Dr. Kedrosky offers a unique and valuable viewpoint on the venture capital and information technology industries, from both an academic and a practical perspective,' said Dr. Robin Louis, president of Ventures West. 'We look forward to his insights and expect that he will add another facet to our investigation of investment opportunities and activities in the industry.'

Kedrosky joins the firm from Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California where he guided portfolio investment decisions in commercialising faculty research. He also lectures at UC San Diego on all aspects of early-stage and fast-growing companies and is an adjunct professor in the Management of Technology programme at Simon Fraser University.

Kedrosky previously founded the technology equity research practice at brokerage firm HSBC James Capel and was also a founder of a private equity fund in San Diego.

'We believe that our team of advisors, such as Paul, and our entrepreneurs in residence are unique in Canada,' said Louis. 'This team will provide counsel to our investment team and entrepreneurs and contribute to the successful investment of our recent fund, Ventures West VIII.'

Ventures West VIII closed on CDN$158m at the end of last year. The fund will invest in early-stage technology companies in the biotechnology, communication, energy technology and information technology sectors.
