Kohlberg Kravis Roberts is hoping to raise $750m through the initial public offering of a business development company, KKR BDC. The new company will make debt and equity investments in public companies.
The new company will not invest in any company already sponsored by a KKR private equity fund but will capitalise on deal flow turned down by these funds. The company may also invest up to 30 per cent of its portfolio opportunistically in high-yield bonds, distressed debt, or the equity of other public companies.
KKR BDC will have an independent investment team and board of advisors who have not yet been named, but will also have access to KKR's existing investment teams.
