Canadian Ventures West has expanded its entrepreneur-in-residence team with the addition of Barry Allen. Allen, former president and CEO of VSM MedTech, will be involved in identifying and evaluating investment opportunities with a focus on biotech and medical device companies.
'Barry's extensive experience and contacts in the scientific and business community will be of great value to Ventures West and our entrepreneurs,' said Robin Louis, president of Ventures West.
Prior to joining VSM, Allen held a number of senior positions within the international medical device industry including Xillix Technologies, a Canadian medical imaging technology company.
'With a total of five entrepreneurs-in-residence in our Toronto and Vancouver offices, we have one of the largest EIR programmes in Canada,' Louis added. 'The EIRs provide valuable advice and input regarding our investment activities. Our portfolio companies benefit directly from their expertise and several past EIRs have joined our companies as CEO or senior management.'
Ventures West currently manages over $600m and has invested in more than 125 companies since its inception in 1968. The firm invests in a wide range of sectors including biotechnology, communications, energy technology and information technology.
