Kodiak Venture Partners has recruited Steve Maxwell as a recruiting partner. Maxwell will assist the firm in recruiting executives for the firm's portfolio companies, predominantly in the communications, IT, semiconductor and software sectors.
Maxwell joins Kodiak from The Onstott Group of Wellesley, an executive search firm, where he served as president. He previously worked at Russell Reynolds Associates.
The position of recruiting partner was common among private equity firms in the late 1990s but has largely faded from view in recent years. There are signs, however, that an increasing number of firms are now looking to hire someone to expand and coordinate the network of candidates available to their portfolio companies. A recent example of this is US Greylock, which appointed Mike Ahearn as a recruiting partner last month.
Kodiak Venture Partners closed its latest fund on $316m in September 2003. Investors in the fund included Goldman Sachs, Common Fund, JPMorgan, Flag Ventures and NIB.
