Zentiva, the Warburg Pincus-backed Central and Eastern European pharmaceutical company, has announced plans for a floatation that will make it the first substantial initial public offering to take place on the Prague Stock Exchange.
Warburg Pincus backed the management buy-out of Leciva, the largest pharmaceutical company in the Czech Republic, in May 1998, before acquiring Slovakia's largest generic player, Slovakofarma, in August last year. The two firms have since merged under the Zentiva brand name.
'We are delighted that Zentiva is to become a public company by being the first company to undertake a significant IPO on the Prague Stock Exchange,' said Jiri Michal, chief executive officer of Zentiva. 'The offering will facilitate our strategy of expansion into other Central and Eastern European markets.'
Warburg Pincus currently has approximately $9bn under management and $5bn available for investment in a range of industries including industrial, business services, energy, financial services and technologies, healthcare and life sciences. The firm closed its latest fund, Warburg Pincus Private Equity VIII with $5.3bn in April 2002.
