Lehman Brothers has announced the appointment of Javier Bañón as a managing director and co-head of the European merchant banking group. Bañón joins the firm from DB Capital Partners where he was responsible for private equity investments in Latin America.
The merchant banking group is responsible for investing Lehman Brothers' and third party capital in private equity. The firm focuses on mid-market buy-out opportunities in Western Europe and the US.
'Javier Bañón is joining a global team with a strong track record and in time to play a significant part in the development of the European business,' said Charles Ayres, global head of merchant banking. 'Lehman Brothers' Merchant Banking is able to access a broad network of long-term client relationships through over two thousand investing banking and wealth management professionals which gives us a district advantage in investment origination.'
Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking launched its private equity operations in 1989 and has invested over $2.7bn in 29 companies.
