Claudio Aguirre Pemán has joined Spanish private equity firm Mercapital as a vice president and member of the board. He will be responsible for identifying investment opportunities, anticipating market trends and supporting strategic decisions for existing portfolio companies.
Aguirre founded Altamar Private Equity in 2004, the first Spanish group dedicated to managing fund of funds, where he serves as executive president. He was previously head of the investment banking division for Europe, the Middle East and Africa in Merrill Lynch's Spanish office.
'I am very satisfied to collaborate with this magnificent team that has led the sector in capital investment in our country for years,' said Aguirre. 'During my career at Merrill Lynch, I had the chance to work with Mercapital in its fundraising as well as in several IPOs led by them, such as Baron de Ley and Mecalux. I was therefore able to test their great professionalism and profound business knowledge.'
'At Mercapital we are pleased with the incorporation of someone who boasts Claudio's experience and professional calibre,' added Jose Maria Loizaga, president of Mercapital. 'His contribution will be key in the next few years in a sector of an increasing number of opportunities in our country.'
