UK-based IP2IPO to acquire Top Technology Ventures

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityIP2IPO, UK-based intellectual property business, is in negotiations to buy rival UK venture firm Top Technology Ventures. The deal is expected to be closed within a month.

IP2IPO specialises in commercialising and spinning out technology from British universities. The firm signed its first deal with Oxford University in November 2000, adding subsequent deals with Southampton University in March 2002, King's College London in May 2003 and the University of York in October 2003.

Top Technology has raised three funds to date, most recently in 2000 when it received £20m in capital commitments. The firm focuses on early-stage technology investments of between £500,000 and £1m.

Its current portfolio companies include Wire-e, a wireless business application company, Commerce Decisions, a procurement software producer and AP Benson, a provider on online risk and genetic consulting tools, according to a report by VentureWire.
