Senior executives at Aberdeen Murray Johnstone Private equity are in discussions to acquire the business in a management buy-out. Jonathan Diggines, managing director of the unit, is leading the negotiations.
The transactions would see Diggines and his team acquiring the management company of Aberdeen Murray Johnstone but not the £365m of funds it manages. However, the unit would almost certainly continue to manage its existing investments and would probably also look to raise new capital through an independent fund, according to a report by The Times.
Aberdeen Murray Johnstone Private Equity was formed in 2000 when Aberdeen Asset Management acquired Murray Johnstone and merged the two firm's private equity units. The firm typically makes investments of between £1.5m and £50m.
