German middle-market private equity firm, Capiton, has announced that it is to spin out from its parent company Gothaer Insurance. The firm has also revealed that it is planning a possible move into the mezzanine sector.
Gothaer Insurance will retain a ten per cent stake in the firm, while the management will acquire a 60 per cent share, the employees a 20 per cent share and the remaining ten per cent will be earmarked for a potential strategic partner whose identity is as yet unknown.
Capiton was formed from the merger of the captive equity activities of Gothaer, with private equity firm BB-K, which was acquired by Gothaer. The firm is currently investing from its second fund which closed with E150m of commitments in 2003.
