CVC Capital Partners has sold glass manufacturer BSN Glasspack for E1.16bn to US-listed glass packaging firm Owens-Illinois. Owens-Illinois is currently owned by US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.
BSN is based in Paris and generated net sales of approximately E1.23bn last year. The company has 19 plants in total in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. CVC originally acquired a 56 per cent stake in the company in August 1999 and bought the remaining 44 per cent from Group Danone last year.
The transaction has received clearance from the EU competition authorities on the proviso that Owens-Illinois divests two glass bottle plants in Spain and Italy.
The exit follows closely on the heels of CVC's successful flotation of retailer Halfords.
