US Bain Capital has closed two private equity funds with combined commitments of $4.25bn. The funds comfortably met their respective targets after just two months of fundraising and had significant indications of interest beyond the closing total, according to industry sources.
The buy-out firm has raised $3.5bn for Bain Capital Fund VIII, which was originally targeting $3bn. The firm also met its $750m goal for a fund that will co-invest alongside Fund VIII.
Bain Capital was founded in 1984 and currently has over $17bn of assets under management. It has raised a total of 11 private equity funds to date, including one venture fund, and made more than 200 investments.
Bain is famed for being the only buy-out group with a 30 per cent share of its funds carried interest, underlining the strength of its historical track record.
