Tom Bartlam, the founder and managing director of UK-based mezzanine provider Intermediate Capital Group, has been appointed chairman of quoted fund of funds group Pantheon International Participations (PIP).
Bartlam replaces Ewen Macpherson, who has resigned following a bereavement. 'Unexpected changes in family circumstances mean that I am no longer able to devote as much time as I would want to my responsibilities at PIP,' he said. 'It is with regret that I step down and I wish the company well for the future.'
Macpherson retired as chief executive of 3i in July 1997 and has since held numerous board positions including Merrill Lynch New Energy Technology, Foreign and Colonial Investment Trust and Glaxo Smithkline Pension Fund.
PIP operates a global private equity fund of funds programme based on strategic allocations recommended by Pantheon. Its portfolio has been built through primary investments and secondary interests as well as the occasional acquisitions of direct holdings in private companies.
