JP Morgan Partners, the private equity arm of JP Morgan Chase, is in advanced talks to buy the number two cinema chain in the US, AMC Entertainment. The transaction has been valued at around $1.4bn.
JP Morgan Partners is negotiating to take AMC private for $19 to $20 per share, plus the assumption of outstanding debt, according to the New York Post. The potential purchase price would be a more than 33 per cent premium over AMC's closing stock price at the beginning of this week.
AMC owns more than 230 cinemas in the US as well as in countries including Canada, France and Japan.
