European private equity firm Permira is backing the Grimaldi family in a E522m takeover of listed shipping company Grandi Navi Velocci. The takeover vehicle Vento will pay E2.6 a share for the stake owned by the Grimaldis' holding company.
Vento, which is 80 per cent owned by Permira Europe III and 20 per cent owned by the Grimaldis, will then offer E2.5 each for the remaining shares in order to delist the company, according to a report by Reuters.
Grandi Navi has said that the takeover is aimed at strengthening the company's cruise ferry and truck transportation businesses and indicated that it may look to buy other shipping groups in the future.
