US private equity firm Carlyle has announced the launch of a European leveraged finance business to invest in European senior secured bank loans, mezzanine loans and high yield bonds. The firm has hired the former head of leveraged finance at Prudential M&G, Mike Ramsay, to run the business.
Bank of Scotland is to act as a strategic investor in the new fund, while JP Morgan will act as arranger. 'This combination will enable us to source deals and establish a European presence quickly,' Mike Zupon, Carlyle managing director, told the Financial Times.
Carlyle has operated a US leveraged finance business since 1999 and has nearly $3bn of committed capital under management. Last month, Carlyle closed its sixth high-yield fund, Carlyle High Yield Partners VI on $400m.
