3i executive director Martin Gagen has announced plans to resign from the company after more than 20 years to take up a place studying at Stanford University. He will be replaced as the firm's top person in the US by Allan Ferguson, who is currently based at 3i's Waltham Massachussetts office.
Philip Yea, who joined 3i as chief executive earlier this year, said: 'Martin has made a significant contribution to 3i since he joined in 1983. He has done a great job establishing 3i's presence in the US and in developing our business in Asia Pacific.'
3i is one of very few European-based private equity firms with a significant presence outside the region.
