US New Enterprise Associates adds medical device specialist as venture partner

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityUS-based New Enterprise Associates has recruited medical device entrepreneur Joshua Makower as a venture partner. Makower will focus on all major medical device markets with a particular emphasis on cardiology, neurology and orthopaedics.

Makower is the founder and chief executive of ExploraMed II, a new Enterprise Associate portfolio company and medical device incubator. He is also a consulting associate professor of medicine at Stanford University Medical School and the co-director of Standford's Biodesign Innovation Program, according to a report by VentureWire.

Makower was previously founder and chief executive of ExploraMed 1, from which two New Enterprise Associates-backed companies, EndoMatrix and TransVascular were developed.

New Enterprise Associates currently has $6bn under management for investment in early-stage ventures. The firm has backed over 500 companies since its inception in 1978.
