Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityUS firm Yellowstone Capital has reacted to growing financial market concerns about the sustainability of present energy sources with the launch of a new early stage energy fund called Yellowstone Energy Ventures.

The fund will target investments in renewable energy and alternative energy technology opportunities. These will include clean coal related technologies, wind power, energy storage devices, fuel cell technology and solar power, the firm said.

'The outlook for new energy sources and technologies is very promising. Strong global demand and economic growth in virtually every region combined with high capacity utilisation and depleting supplies for fossil fuels have combined to close the economic gap between fossil fuels and renewables,' said Omar Sawaf, chairman of Yellowstone Capital.

The rocketing oil price in recent months has drawn unprecedented institutional attention onto new energy funds.
