Ashbourne Healthcare, the care homes business owned by pan-European buy-out firm Electra Partners, has paid £60m to buy rival Highclear in its eleventh acquisition since Electra's buy-in in 2003. The deal makes it the fourth largest care home operator in the rapidly consolidating UK market.
Robert Clarke, director of Electra Partners, said: 'This sector is in need of further consolidation as part of the process of facilitating grater efficiency, improved quality of both facilities, care and access to the necessary capital for investment in the much needed new capacity over the coming years.'
Including this latest deal, Electra has now invested £121m in acquiring more than 2000 beds in 50 homes.
The healthcare sector has seen a string of deals in recent weeks involving private equity firms such as the Blackstone Group, Allianz Capital Partners and 3i.
