Australian venture capital firm Starfish Ventures has closed its second fund with commitments of AUS$123m, comfortably exceeding its target of AUS$100m. The fund will invest in both the ICT and life sciences sectors.
Starfish was founded in 2001 and raised its first fund, the Starfish Pre-seed Fund, in 2002.
Australian venture capital and private equity fundraising has rocketed over the past 18 months, reflecting an upsurge in local institutional interest and also interest from international investors.
The industry has also benefited from regulatory reforms and the introduction of the new Venture Capital Limited Partnership structure in 2002.
