US buy-out firm Hellman & Friedman has agreed to buy software firm Vertafore from funds managed by MMC Capital and a handful of other minority investors. The transaction is expected to close before the end of the year.
Hellman & Friedman will be joined in the deal by JMI Equity, a San Diego-based venture capital firm focusing on the software and business service industries. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Vertafore, Inc. is a provider of specialised software, services and information for the property and casualty insurance industry. It now provides management systems and information sources to 15,000 independent agencies, 120,000 end-users, and 300 insurance carriers.
Hellman & Friedman has made a series of other investments in the software sector, including Blackbaud and Mitchell International.
The firm recently closed a new fund with commitments of more than $3.5bn and opened an office in the UK from which to build its activities in Europe.
