US Ripplewood buys Alcatel's electrical power system activities

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityRipplewood has completed its first investment in the power electronics industry with the acquisition of French firm Alcatel's electrical power system activities. Bruce Brock, the former chief operating officer of Lucent Power Systems, will manage the business for Ripplewood.

The activities comprise the AEG SVS Power Supply Systems, Alcatel Converters, Harmer & Simmons and Saft Power Systems business lines.

France-based Alcatel provides communications solutions to telecommunication carriers, internet service providers and enterprises for delivery of voice, data and video applications to their customers or employees. Alcatel says, this transaction is an important step in the company's strategy to further focus on communications solutions.

Ripplewood invests in multiple industries including automotive, consumer electronics, direct marketing, financial services, consumer products, entertainment, specialty chemicals, telecommunication services and power electronics.
