Pan-European mid-market private equity firm Stirling Square Capital Partners has acquired Sweden's Arca Systems, a producer and provider of plastic-based material handling systems, from Nordic buy-out firm Industri Kapital for approximately E190m.
At the same time Stirling Square has also merged Arca Systems with Dutch portfolio company Schoeller Wavin Systems, a European crate and tray manufacturer for the beverage industry and for crate pooling companies.
'For Industri Kapital's investors the Arca investment has been highly successful. The company has turned losses into good profitability since our acquisition whilst a number of exciting products have been launched by Arca during this time,' said Christian Salamon, partner of Industri Kapital and member of the Arca Board.
Arca Systems, with its head office in Malmö, operates in countries across Europe, North America and Asia. The company has a turnover of approximately €220m, and 900 employees.
Schoeller Wavin's CEO René Wolfkamp, who will become CEO of Schoeller Arca Systems, said, 'By combining our knowledge and expertise we will be able to better serve current and potential customers with more innovative and cost effective products. The returnable plastic market is set to grow considerably over the next decade, and we aim to drive that growth and to benefit from it.'
Stefano Bonfiglio, partner at Stirling Square, added, 'We are pleased to have merged Schoeller Wavin with Arca and look forward to working with the management team to capitalise on several opportunities ahead. This deal is a classic example of the investments we are looking to make: buying regional champions and building them into European and global leaders.'
Industri Kapital, a private equity firm with Nordic roots, manages close to €4bn in fund commitments from Nordic, European and international institutional investors. Since 1989, Industri Kapital has acquired 49 European companies. The firm invests mainly in mid-sized companies.
Stirling Square Capital Partners invests in European companies with enterprise values in the €50-500m range, operating across a broad spectrum of service and industrial sectors. Since its foundation two years ago, Stirling Square Capital Partners has made six acquisitions with a total enterprise value of approximately €550m.
