Expansion-stage private equity firm San Francisco Equity Partners has officially launched its operations. SFEP was founded in partnership with LMS Capital, the investment arm of London Merchant Securities, and focuses on investments within the information technology, media, consumer and service industries. SFEP is managed by Scott Potter, who, prior to founding SFEP, was LMS's US investment director, responsible for the company's North American private equity and venture capital portfolios.
The firm has appointed Cameron Steele as partner. Previously Steele was a managing director and senior research analyst at RBC Capital Markets for six years and, most recently, a vice president and technology analyst for McMorgan & Co., supporting an actively managed $5bn equity portfolio.
As previously announced, most of LMS's existing direct investments in the US have been transferred into the new fund. They include Merriman Curhan Ford & Co., Method Products, Penguin Computing and Modviz.
Robert Rayne, chief executive of London Merchant Securities, said, 'Scott and Cameron make a great team and have the experience to ensure SFEP is a success. We are very excited about this new venture and believe that the new vehicle will allow LMS to manage, value and develop its US investments more effectively.'
