3i has bought European ground handler Aviapartner for a reported £160m. Brussels-headquartered Aviapartner offers a range of ground handling services via its international network of 31 airports across five European countries. Mark Redman, a director in 3i's Benelux office, said, 'Through our network and sector experience, we rapidly identified Aviapartner as a best-in-class business operating on a pan-European basis with exceptional growth potential.'
'Going forward, we will work in close partnership with Aviapartner management to support the group's growth and further its international expansion, both organically and via selective acquisitions,' Redman continued.
Jonathan Russell, 3i's head of buy-outs, said, 'The investment in Aviapartner comes soon after our appointment of Belgian national Robert van Goethem as a director in 3i's Benelux office, and further confirms our commitment to Belgium.'
3i's previous investments in the aviation sector include low cost airline Go Fly and SR Technics, a large provider of comprehensive technical support for aircraft, engines and components.
In the past two days 3i has also announced that it has completed its acquisition of Daalderop, a supplier of innovative heating equipment and solar energy systems in the Netherlands, and acquired a 40 per cent stake in Italian toy company Giochi Preziosi.
3i focuses on buy-outs, growth capital and venture capital and invest across Europe, in the United States and Asia.
