 Capital Z Investment Partners, a $2.25bn investment firm focused on making sponsorship investments in private equity funds and hedge funds, and Reservoir Capital Group have formed a joint venture to collaborate on new fund sponsorships and related co-investment opportunities in the global private equity market.
The jointly-owned company will advise CZIP on the monitoring of CZIP's existing portfolio of private equity and private equity-related investments, and on new private equity fund investments. The joint venture will also consult to Reservoir on new sponsorships and co-investment opportunities.
CZIP chairman and CEO Laurence Cheng will head the joint venture, while partners Spencer Greenwald, Harlan Zimmerman and Vincent Fan will manage the new company. Marc Schwartz will manage the relationship for Reservoir.
Cheng said, 'This is a great strategic fit that benefits our investors, our portfolio companies and our two firms. We have known and co-invested with Reservoir for several years. We have enormous respect for the Reservoir organisation and look forward to working even more closely with their team in the future.'

The Capital Z team has successfully pursued private equity sponsorship opportunities in North America, Europe and Asia. This new joint venture will significantly expand our access to partnering opportunities, particularly outside the United States. Through its two funds CZI I and CZI II, CZIP management has sponsored 15 private equity funds in the US, Europe and Asia. Sponsored strategies include buy-outs, growth capital, structured equity, mezzanine, distressed investment and venture capital.
Reservoir Capital Group invests in the private and public equity and debt markets, and has over $2bn under management.
