Baring Private Equity Asia has appointed William W Flanz as a member of the Investment Committee. Flanz has been senior advisor to Baring Asia since January 2003. He was previously chief executive officer of private investment company Sterling Enterprises. Other steps in his career include 19 years with Chase Manhattan Bank; becoming a founding member of Prudential's private equity operation in Asia; and being appointed a Management Committee member of Investcorp, a US and European buy-out firm.
Jean Eric Salata, chief executive of Baring Asia, said, 'I have known Bill personally for a long time and I am delighted to be working with him. We are lucky to have someone with his investment experience and knowledge to help us in our investment decision process.
'We believe that having operating experience and industry knowledge will be an important competitive differentiator in the deal origination, due diligence and post investment value engineering process and this will ultimately drive higher investment returns,' Salata continued.
Baring Private Equity Asia advises $650m in capital for MBO financing and growth capital for companies in the mid-market sector in Asia Pacific. The firm invests in companies with enterprise values between $50m and $200m and focuses on China, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Baring Private Equity Asia is a member of private equity asset manager Baring Private Equity International, which finalised its MBO from parent company ING Group in 2004.
