UK-based private equity firm Doughty Hanson & Co has sold Itasca, Illinois-based Knowles Electronics to Dover Corporation for $750m. The firm's return on its equity investment in Knowles Electronics is 1.7 times. Knowles Electronics produces hearing aid components and also manufactures acoustic components used in mobile phones, PDAs, telephony and internet applications.
Doughty Hanson acquired Knowles Electronics in 1999 for $530m, financed through equity investment of $180m and $350m of debt.
John Leahy, principal, Doughty Hanson, said, 'Our focus on leading-edge technologies in both transducers and MEMs and the establishment of a very low cost base has positioned Knowles for strong growth in existing and new markets.'
Doughty Hanson has offices in London, Frankfurt, Milan, Munich, Paris and Stockholm.
