Ontario Teachers' buys US Doane Pet Care Company for US$840m

Click here for the latest news, views and interviews in the clean energy investor communityTeachers' Private Capital, the private investment arm of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, has agreed to purchase Brentwood, Tennessee-based Doane Pet Care Company for Can$1bn (US$840m).

Doane Pet Care manufactures private label pet food in the US and serves many pet food retailers in the US, Europe and Japan.

Jim Leech, senior vice president, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, said, 'The US is a key market for us, and we look forward to working with Doane's excellent management team to help grow this business.'

Teachers' Private Capital has more than Can$7bn in assets. Significant investments include Samsonite, Worldspan, Alliance Laundry Systems, Yellow Pages Group, and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

Teachers' Private Capital specialises in providing private equity and mezzanine debt capital for large and mid-cap companies, venture capital for developing industries, and financing for a growing portfolio of infrastructure and timberland assets.
