GSC Partners, the transatlantic mezzanine and debt specialist, has appointed former Goldman Sachs partner Joseph H Wender as a managing director. Wender will work closely with Alfred C Eckert III, chairman and chief executive officer, and the other senior officers of the firm to explore new investment opportunities and expand geographically, GSC Partners said. Wender will oversee the firm's new Los Angeles. The office has been opened to serve as a platform to establish a broader presence in the region.
Wender spent more than 30 years at Goldman Sachs. He joined the company in 1971 and became a general partner in 1982, where he headed the Financial Institutions Group for over a decade. During his tenure with Goldman Sachs, Wender specialised in mergers and banking industry transactions and was instrumental in the mergers of BankAmerica with Nations, Wells Fargo with Norwest, and Chase with Chemical.
He sits on the board of Isis Pharmaceuticals, First Coastal Bancshares, Affinity Financial, Neurome and Wright Line. Wender is also a director of several not-for-profit institutions, including COPIA, the St. Helena Hospital and The Joffrey Ballet.
GSC Partners has $8bn of assets under management and specialises in control distressed debt investing, corporate credit, European mezzanine lending and structured finance.
