European private equity and venture capital firm 3i has strengthened its infrastructure team in London with the appointments of Neil King and Dougie Sutherland as partners, Alistair Ray as director and Angela Roshier as associate. The team now comprises seven professionals. King previously worked at Innisfree, an independent PFI investment fund, and at WestLB, where he ran the London infrastructure team. He has led the funding for a range of transactions in the infrastructure market, including the Tubelines London Underground PPP, Cross Israel Highway, Cornwall Schools PFI project and Wembley Stadium.
Sutherland has worked for both the public and private sectors before joining 3i. He was at Lend Lease, where he led their PFI hospitals and schools business. He also worked for Amey Ventures and HM Treasury. At HM Treasury Sutherland led deals including the redevelopment of the HM Treasury, GCHQ and National Savings buildings.
Ray has spent eight years transacting equity investments in infrastructure with the British Linen Bank, Edison Capital and Noble Fund Managers. In 1997 he made his first investment into Law Hospital, only the second bond-financed PFI deal to come to market.
Roshier joins 3i from Actis, where she spent six years investing in infrastructure assets involving the port, airport, power, rail and cement sectors. She worked on transactions including YVR Airports Services and Peru Central Railways. Prior to Actis, Roshier was at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young
Cressida Hogg, senior partner of 3i's infrastructure team, said, 'The new members of the team are highly regarded practitioners within the industry and bring valuable knowledge, contacts and experience from across the infrastructure market. These appointments will accelerate our infrastructure investment plans and will enhance the dynamics of our expanding team.'
Michael Queen, 3i's head of growth capital, added, 'I am delighted to welcome the new members of the infrastructure team. These appointments, which follow our investment in IČ earlier this year, constitute the next step in achieving our goal of building a long-term, successful infrastructure business.'
3i focuses on buy-outs, growth capital and venture capital, and invests across Europe, in the United States and in Asia Pacific.
The firm's infrastructure team is currently looking at investment opportunities across Europe, especially in the UK, France, Iberia, Benelux, Germany and Italy.
