The European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association has appointed Dr Helmut M Schühsler, managing partner of the Munich-based venture capital firm TVM, as chairman of the Professional Standards Committee. Dr Schühsler takes over from Hervé Claquin, chief executive officer of ABN Amro Capital Finance, who has held the position since 2001. Dr Schühsler has worked in the venture capital industry for 18 years and has been responsible for TVM's investments in the life science sector for 15 years.
Javier Echarri, secretary-general of EVCA, said, 'We are delighted that Helmut has agreed to lead our Professional Standards Committee. Throughout our 22-year history, the Association has worked to develop good professional standards and striven to maintain the highest possible standards within the industry. As a result, we are quickly becoming a reference point for other asset classes. Helmut's experience and leadership will help us to continue this essential work.'
Dr Schühsler added, 'Professional Standards is one of the most important cornerstones of our industry. I am keen to make sure that this Committee continues to balance the needs of the industry and those of external stakeholders. We are proud of our industry's record of self-regulation and I look forward to strengthening this even further.'
EVCA's Professional Standards Committee aims to reinforce and develop professional standards for the European private equity and venture capital industry.
EVCA currently has seven operating committees: the Investor Relations Committee, the Professional Standards Committee, the Conferences and Member Services Committee, the Buyout Committee, the High-Tech Committee, the National Associations Committee, and the Tax and Legal Committee.
