California-based venture capital firm MedVenture Associates has appointed Robert Brownell as a partner in MedVenture Associates V.

Brownwell joins MVA with 18 years of experience counselling life sciences companies from formation to maturity. Prior to joining MVA, he was vice president and general counsel of TheraSense, one of MVA's investments.

Previously, Brownwell was a corporate and securities attorney in a practice that focused on the representation of technology companies from their earliest stages, including many MVA portfolio companies such as ArthroCare, PercuSurge, and TheraSense.

MedVenture founder and senior managing partner Annette Campbell-White said, 'Bob's extensive experience and strong relationships with entrepreneurs, managers and peers in the venture capital industry build a strong foundation for joining MVA's team.'

MVA focuses on seed and early stage investments in healthcare.
