Index Ventures IV closes on €350m hard cap15/02/2007. Source: AltAssets.
Europe-based venture capital firm Index Ventures has closed Index Ventures IV on €350m, the hard cap of the fund. There were no intermediate closings. New and existing investors have committed to the fund. About half of the committed capital came from European investors and the other half from US investors.
Index Ventures has also announced that it has appointed former Skype global marketing vice president and Video Island founder Saul Klein as a venture partner, and PanGenetics founder Mark De Boer as venture partner. Pharmaceutical executive Michèle Ollier has been promoted to partner.
'Everything we do is about helping entrepreneurs move quickly to become global market leaders,' said Index Ventures general partner Bernard Dallé. 'Success for European companies has depended on their ability to extend their geographical reach quickly and cost-effectively. We invest in entrepreneurial teams going after global opportunities, whether they are in Tallinn, Toronto, Los Angeles, London or Madrid.'
The new fund brings the Index Ventures' total capital under management to more than €1bn.
Index Ventures invests in the life science and information technology sectors and has offices in Geneva, London and Jersey. The firm's investments have included Genmab, a large antibody company, betting exchange Betfair and Skype, recently sold to eBay.
