Providence Equity Partners has closed its sixth fund, Providence Equity Partners VI, on $12bn. Investors in the new fund include corporate, state and sovereign pension funds, university endowments, private foundations, funds of funds, and high-net-worth individuals. Jonathan M Nelson, CEO of Providence Equity, said, 'We are gratified by the strong support of our limited partners who enabled us to raise this substantial new fund in only four months.'
Providence Equity now manages approximately $21bn in total equity commitments. The firm specialises in equity investments in media, entertainment, communications and information companies worldwide.
Providence Equity investments have included Bresnan Broadband Holdings, Casema, Com Hem, Digiturk, Education Management Corporation, eircom, Freedom Communications, Idea Cellular, Kabel Deutschland, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Ono, PanAmSat, ProSiebenSat.1, Recoletos, TDC, VoiceStream Wireless, Warner Music Group, Western Wireless and Yankees Entertainment Sports Network.
Providence Equity is headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, and has offices in New York and London. The firm is in the process of opening offices in Hong Kong and New Delhi.
