Markowitz and Doyle launch private equity firm Goldin Ventures23/02/2007. Source: AltAssets.
Steve Markowitz and Mike Doyle, most recently the chairman and president of Eastern Research respectively, have formed a private equity firm, called Goldin Ventures. Goldin Ventures will work with mid and large-scale telecom equipment suppliers to acquire business units or product lines which are no longer aligned to the strategic direction of the divesting company.
While many large-scale technology buy-out funds are targeted to acquiring positions in companies that are $40-400m in size, Goldin Ventures is positioned to address an underserved segment of $5-20m.
Markowitz said, 'Given the enormous industry consolidation, many successful product lines and business units will be rationalised as non-strategic and either sold or no longer funded. Products will be discontinued, customers left with ongoing needs and employees potentially disenfranchised.
'With a spin-out, exciting products could be nurtured, customers would continue to be served and new career opportunities created in the process. Provided the product direction and reputation of these businesses are solid, we believe we can continue to develop these companies as successful standalone entities, much as we did with Eastern Research,' Markowitz continued.
