 Abingworth has appointed Dr Vincent Miles as venture partner, based in the firm's Waltham, Massachusetts office. His responsibilities will include evaluating new investment opportunities and supporting portfolio companies.
Dr Miles was most recently senior vice president, business development, of Abingworth portfolio company Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. Before joining Alnylam, he worked for Millennium Pharmaceuticals, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, RiboGene, Pharmacia and Amersham International.
Abingworth has funds under management of approximately $1.25bn and offices in London, Cambridge (UK), Menlo Park and Boston.
The firm's investments have included Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Aurora Biosciences, Aviron, GelTex Pharmaceuticals, Healtheon, IDEC Pharmaceuticals, PowderMed and Solexa.
In January 2007 Abingworth closed its eighth life sciences fund, Abingworth Bioventures V, on £300m. The fund's target was £250m.
