Bridgepoint has acquired Wolters Kluwer Education, the educational division of quoted Dutch-based global information services and publishing company Wolters Kluwer, in a transaction which values the company at €774m. In a separate deal, the pan-European private equity firm has agreed to acquire UK clothing retailer Fat Face from Advent International in a transaction totalling £360m. WKE is an Amsterdam-headquartered European educational publisher focusing on curriculum-based education and learning solutions. The company has 1,300 full-time employees and annual sales of €317m in 2006, according to a statement.
Fat Face is a specialist in premium men's, women's and children's clothing and accessories. The company sells its products through a network of 128 owned retail stores, mail order catalogues and an internet store. It has over 1,500 employees. Future planned openings include stores in the Middle East, Hong Kong and Singapore. Advent acquired Fat Face in April 2005.
The company will continue to be led by the incumbent CEO Louise Barnes and finance director Stuart Owens who, along with the rest of the management team, will be reinvesting in the business. Alan Giles, who was appointed in October 2006, will remain as non-executive chairman of the business.
Bridgepoint focuses on the acquisition of companies valued up to €1bn.
