The Venture Michigan Fund I, a $95m venture capital fund investment program formed under the Michigan Early Stage Investment Act of 2003, has made an investment commitment to EDF Ventures, an Ann Arbor-based venture capital firm focused on making seed and early stage investments in Michigan life sciences and information technology companies. The commitment amount was not disclosed. Formed in 1987, EDF has been an active venture capital firm in Michigan, having invested $64.8m in 26 Michigan-based portfolio companies.
The Venture Michigan Fund was created in 2006 to grow and develop venture capital funds that have a presence in Michigan and that target investments in Michigan-based early stage companies. Fund investments target a variety of emerging technologies including alternative energy, health care and life sciences, homeland security and defence, information technology, and advanced manufacturing and industrial technology.
Kelly Williams, managing director of Credit Suisse's Customised Fund Investment Group, the manager of VMF I said, 'We are very pleased with the opportunity to partner with EDF so that it can continue its tradition of investing in Michigan-based companies.'
