Skyline Ventures opens new office in Boston02/05/2007. Source: AltAssets.
Skyline Ventures, a US venture capital firm focused on medical devices and life sciences, has announced that it will open a satellite office in Boston. Skyline has also announced that Dr Stephen J Hoffman has joined the firm as managing director. The addition of Dr Hoffman brings the number of investment professionals at Skyline to six. John Freund, a managing director at Skyline, told AltAssets that Dr Hoffman will be the first member of staff in the new Boston office, with deals in the region to be supported by the rest of the Skyline team. Dr Hoffman's skills will also be deployed on the firm's activities throughout the US as required.
Dr Hoffman began his venture capital career when he joined TVM Capital in 2003. He left TVM in March 2007. Prior to TVM, Dr Hoffman was the chairman of Allos Therapeutics, a company he helped launch in 1993 and ran as president and CEO until 2002.
Freund said in a statement, ‘We have worked with Dr Hoffman for years, and he is highly respected in the venture capital community. Our decision to open a satellite office is also an important strategic move for Skyline as four of the ten most recent Skyline investments have been in the Boston area. Furthermore, we believe Dr Hoffman will play an integral role in enhancing Skyline’s deal flow and position in the Boston venture capital community.’
Skyline has approximately $450m under management. Its most recent fund, Skyline IV, closed on $200m in March 2005.
