Venture capital firms invested about $112m across 19 deals in India during the second quarter of 2007, up from $40m invested in 13 deals in Q2 2006, but down from the $130m and 20 deals in Q1 2007, according to a study by Venture Intelligence in partnership with the US-India Venture Capital Association. With 17 deals worth about $110m, the IT and IT-enabled services industry retained its status as the favourite among VC investors during the period April-June 2007. Apart from internet-based services, VC investors paid extra attention to BPO and IT services companies during the quarter.
In the second quarter of this year VCs also showed renewed interest in funding 'cross-border' technology companies - companies headquartered in countries such as the US and carrying out a substantial part of their R&D operations in India.
The US-India Venture Capital Association is a non-profit organisation established in California in June 2002.
Venture Intelligence is a division of Chennai, India-based TSJ Media.
