Jens Bisgaard-Frantzen has joined private equity and hedge fund investment firm Private Advisors. Bisgaard-Frantzen will head the firm's new London office and focus on developing the firm's global private equity investment capability. He comes on board as CEO of Private Advisors UK. Bisgaard-Frantzen until very recently served as the CEO and managing partner of Copenhagen, Denmark-based fund of funds manager ATP Private Equity Partners, the private equity arm of Danish pension fund ATP. He founded ATP PEP in 2001 and managed it since inception, committing approximately $4.8bn to private equity partnerships, secondary positions and co-investment opportunities.
Bisgaard-Frantzen began his professional career as an equity research analyst at a predecessor to Nordea Bank. He later made direct venture and growth capital investments at Dansk Erhvervsinvestering and gained operational management experience as the CFO at Denerco Oil, an independent E&P company. From 1995 to 2001 Bisgaard-Frantzen was head of private and later public equities at Danish pension fund manager Sampension.
Louis W Moelchert Jr, co-founder and managing partner of Private Advisors, said, 'We have analysed the case for a more diversified, global private equity capability for a very long time. Our plans centred around hiring a high calibre individual with strong global investment experience and relationships to lead this business. We were actively speaking to potential candidates for over a year, but Jens was an instinctive fit for the firm.'
Private Advisors has also announced that Basil L ('Beau') Hurst has joined the firm as partner with responsibility for investor relations and product development outside North America. Hurst was most recently at Lazard Asset Management in London, where he was responsible for the alternatives business in Europe and the Middle East and was head of institutional business development for Europe and the Middle East. Prior to Lazard, he was an executive director at UBS O'Connor in London and also worked for Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette's asset management group in New York and London.
Private Advisors said it planned to hire additional professionals to build its global private equity investment team. The firm, established in 1997, focuses on the management of hedge fund and private equity fund of funds products. It manages approximately $3.8bn in assets.
