European private equity firm Bridgepoint and Marathon Group management have agreed to sell their stakes in Marathon Group, a French producer and distributor of TV programmes, to De Agostini for an undisclosed amount. The management is expected to re-invest in the company. Bridgepoint partner Benoit Bassi said, 'Our successive acquisitions of Télé Images in 1998, GTV in 2000 and ALP in 2004, and the 2006 merger with Marathon, testify to Bridgepoint's ability to craft a long-term strategy and pursue an effective acquisition and integration policy.'
De Agostini is active in publishing, gaming, finance, media and communications.
Bridgepoint typically invests in companies valued up to €1bn. New investments in 2007 have included the €774m acquisition of Wolters Kluwer Education, a Dutch-based European educational publisher focussing on curriculum-based education and learning solutions, the €540m acquisition of Fat Face, a UK active lifestyle brand, and the acquisition of Gambro Healthcare, a Swedish dialysis care services group.
